Some Caring Tips About Teeth According To Doctors
how to teeth care

Teeth affect our physical, mental, and social health. Good teeth are needed to chew food into pieces small enough for the digestive system to handle. They also help us look and feel good. Neglected teeth become diseased and cannot perform their function. They may cause bad breath and spoil your smile too.

Being regular with mouth and tooth care can help you avoid tooth loss, painful gums and other dental problems. Here are some tips to keep your teeth problem-free:

Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
Rinse your mouth frequently during the day
Floss your teeth at least once a day.
Don’t smoke or chew tobacco.
Look inside your mouth regularly for sores that don’t heal, irritated gums or other changes.
See your dentist regularly.

It is not just brushing and flossing that keep teeth healthy. You also need to be careful about what you eat and drink. Certain foods with sugars and starches can lead to tooth decay. It is not necessary to avoid these foods completely, but moderation is the key. Eating vegetables may be a healthy choice since they help in removing some deposits on the teeth.

Nutrition tips for healthy teeth:

Avoid foods with high concentration of sugar such as ice cream, halwa, gulab jamun and other sweets.
Eat more nutritious foods with less sugar such as milk, rice, meat, fruits and fish etc.
Most of the refreshing drinks and aerated drinks have a high concentration of sugar, and hence should be restricted.
It is advisable to eat sweet dishes along with the rest of the meal instead of taking them in between meals. This is because during meals saliva production is increased, and this helps in neutralizing the acid that may damage the teeth.
Soft and sticky foods should be avoided because they attach and get between the teeth providing a favorable place for bacteria to grow.
Besides low sugar foods, low fat choices like raw vegetables, fresh fruits, or whole grain breads are also good choices. Eating the right foods can help prevent tooth decay and other diseases.

Major dental problems and their treatments

Most dental problems can be easily prevented and treated. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, eating teeth-friendly food and regular dental check ups are essential for preventing dental problems. Some common dental problems are:-

Bad breath – Most people suffer from bad breath occasionally. However, if it becomes permanent you should consult your dentist. Bad breath is usually due to the breakdown of proteins by bacteria somewhere in the mouth. Maintaining good oral hygiene, eliminating gum disease and scheduling regular professional cleanings are essential to reducing bad breath. Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Brush your tongue, too. Once a day, use floss or an interdental cleaner to clean between teeth. If you wear removable dentures, take them out at night. Clean them thoroughly before replacing them the next morning.
Tooth decay – Also known as dental caries, tooth decay is a very common problem. Bacteria normally reside in the mouth and mix with the proteins present in the saliva to form plaque and attach to the hard enamel surface of the tooth. The bacteria feed on food sugars and starches and produce an acid. This acid eats into the tooth enamel damaging the tooth.

Gum disease – Gum disease (also called periodontal disease), is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. These include the gums (gingiva), the tooth socket, and the periodontal ligaments. Gum disease is caused by plaque, which is a sticky film of bacteria, mucous and food debris that constantly forms on the teeth. Regular and proper brushing along with good dental hygiene are important for preventing gum disease.

Mouth sores – Various types of sores can appear anywhere within the mouth, including the inner cheeks, gums, tongue, lips, or palate. Mouth sores generally last for 10 to 14 days and even last up to 6 weeks. If you have sores, gargle with cool water and avoid hot beverages and foods, spicy and salty foods, and citrus.

Tooth erosion – Tooth erosion is caused by acidic foods and drinks that dissolve away the surface of the tooth. It is becoming increasingly more common, especially due to greater consumption of fizzy drinks – including diet brands. The best to prevent tooth erosion is to cut acidic foods and drinks from your diet.

Tooth sensitivity – Tooth sensitivity is tooth pain due to a wearing away of the tooth’s surface or gum tissue. People with sensitive teeth experience pain or discomfort from sweets, cold air, hot drinks, cold drinks or ice cream. Some people with the condition even experience discomfort from brushing and flossing. Sensitive teeth can usually be treated successfully. Your dentist may prescribe a brush-on fluoride gel or a fluoride rinse. You can also try low-abrasion toothpastes with formulations made especially for sensitive teeth.

Apart from the above listed common dental problems, there could be dental emergencies like severe tooth ache, which needs to be addressed by an immediate visit to your dentist. Remember that your mouth is a busy place where many tiny bacteria move constantly on your teeth, gums, lips and tongue. While some of the bacteria can be harmful, most are not and some are even helpful. It is important to keep your mouth clean to prevent unhealthy bacteria sticking to your teeth and causing dental problems.

You Can Lose Your Weight Without Dieting For Healthy Life
losing weight

Time Your Meals

Set a timer for 20 minutes and reinvent yourself as a slow eater. This is one of the top habits for slimming down without a complicated diet plan. Savor each bite and make them last until the bell chimes. Paced meals offer great pleasure from smaller portions and trigger the body’s fullness hormones. When you wolf your food down in a hurry, your stomach doesn’t have time to tell your brain it’s full. That leads to overeating.

Sleep More, Weigh Less

Sleeping an extra hour a night could help a person drop 14 pounds in a year, according to a University of Michigan researcher who ran the numbers for a 2,500 calorie per day intake. His scenario shows that when sleep replaces idle activities — and the usual mindless snacking — you can effortlessly cut calories by 6%. Results would vary for each person, but sleep may help in another way, too. There’s evidence that getting less than 7 hours of sleep revs up your appetite, making you uncommonly hungry.

Serve More, Eat More Veggies

Serve three vegetables with dinner tonight, instead of just one, and you’ll eat more without really trying. Greater variety tricks people into eating more food — and eating more fruits and vegetables is a great way to lose weight. The high fiber and water content fills you up with fewer calories. Cook them without added fat. And season with lemon juice and herbs rather than drowning their goodness in high-fat sauces or dressings.

When Soup’s On, Weight Comes Off

Add a broth-based soup to your day and you’ll fill up on fewer calories. Think minestrone, tortilla soup, or Chinese won-ton. Soup’s especially handy at the beginning of a meal because it slows your eating and curbs your appetite. Start with a low-sodium broth or canned soup, add fresh or frozen vegetables and simmer. Beware of creamy soups, which can be high in fat and calories.

Go for Whole Grains

Whole grains such as brown rice, barley, oats, buckwheat, and whole wheat also belong in your stealthy weight loss strategy. They help fill you up with fewer calories and may improve your cholesterol, too. Whole grains are now in many products including waffles, pizza crust, English muffins, pasta, and soft “white” whole-wheat bread.

Eyeball Your Skinny Clothes

Hang an old favorite dress, skirt, or a smokin’ pair of jeans where you’ll see them every day. This keeps your eyes on the prize. Choose an item that’s just a little too snug, so you reach this reward in a relatively short time. Then pull out last year’s cocktail dress for your next small, attainable goal.

Skip the Bacon

Pass on those two strips of bacon at breakfast or in your sandwich at lunch time. This simple move saves about 100 calories, which can add up to a 10 pound weight loss over a year. Other sandwich fixings can replace the flavor with fewer calories. Think about tomato slices, banana peppers, roasted red bell peppers, grainy mustard, or a light spread of herbed goat cheese.

Build a Better Slice of Pizza

Choose vegetable toppings for pizza instead of meat and you may be able to shave 100 calories from your meal. Other skinny pizza tricks: Go light on the cheese or use reduced-fat cheese and choose a thin, bread-like crust made with just a touch of olive oil.

Fitness Tips to keep you always fresh and Sharp Mind
Fitness-Myths-700x352
It’s easy to fall into the trap: A workout buddy passes along an exercise tip, and then you pass it on to several folks you know. Your kid’s coach gives you advice, and sure enough you hear the same thing from several other parents. So you figure it must be true. But experts say that in the world of fitness, myths and half-truths abound – and some of them may be keeping you and your family from getting the best and safest workout.

“Some myths are just harmless half-truths, but many others can actually be harmful,” says professional triathlete and personal coach Eric Harr, author of The Portable Personal Trainer. “They can cause frustration in working out and sometimes even lead to injury,” he notes.

One reason myths get started, says Harr, is that we all react to exercise a little differently. So what’s true for one person may not be true for another.

“In this sense you sometimes have to find your own ‘exercise truths’ – the things that are true for you,” says Harr.

That said, experts say there are also some fitness myths that just need busting, and the sooner the better!

To help put you and your family on the path to a healthier, safer, and more enjoyable workout, WebMD got the lowdown from several top experts on what’s true and what’s not when it comes to exercise tips.

Fitness Myth No. 1: Running on a treadmill puts less stress on your knees than running on asphalt or pavement.

“Running is a great workout, but it can impact the knees — and since it’s the force of your body weight on your joints that causes the stress, it’s the same whether you’re on a treadmill or on asphalt,” says Todd Schlifstein, DO, a clinical instructor at New York University Medical Center’s Rusk Institute.

The best way to reduce knee impact, says Schlifstein, is to vary your workout.

“If you mix running with other cardio activities, like an elliptical machine, or you ride a stationary bike, you will reduce impact on your knees so you’ll be able to run for many more years,” says Schlifstein.

Fitness Myth No. 2: Doing crunches or working on an “ab machine” will get rid of belly fat.

Don’t believe everything you hear on those late-night infomercials! Harr says that while an ab-crunching device might “help strengthen the muscles around your midsection and improve your posture,” being able to “see” your abdominal muscles has to do with your overall percentage of body fat. If you don’t lose the belly fat, he says, you won’t see the ab muscles.

But can doing ab crunches help you to lose that belly fat? Experts say no.

“You can’t pick and choose areas where you’d like to burn fat,” says Phil Tyne, director of the fitness center at the Baylor Tom Landry Health & Wellness Center in Dallas. So crunches aren’t going to target weight loss in that area.

The 30-Minute Workout Routine

Start
“In order to burn fat, you should create a workout that includes both cardiovascular and strength-training elements. This will decrease your overall body fat content,” including the area around your midsection, he says.

Fitness Myth No. 3: An aerobic workout will boost your metabolism for hours after you stop working out.

This statement is actually true — but the calorie burn is probably not nearly as much as you think!

Harr says that while your metabolism will continue to burn at a slightly higher rate after you finish an aerobic workout, the amount is not statistically significant. In fact, it allows you to burn only about 20 extra calories for the day. While there’s a little bit more of a metabolic boost after strength training, he says, it’s still marginal.

“It doesn’t really count towards your caloric burn,” he says.

Fitness Myth No. 4: Swimming is a great weight loss activity.

While swimming is great for increasing lung capacity, toning muscles, and even helping to burn off excess tension, Harr says the surprising truth is that unless you are swimming for hours a day, it may not help you lose much weight.

“Because the buoyancy of the water is supporting your body, you’re not working as hard as it would if, say, you were moving on your own steam — like you do when you run,” says Harr.

Further, he says, it’s not uncommon to feel ravenous when you come out of the water.

“It may actually cause you to eat more than you normally would, so it can make it harder to stay with an eating plan,” he says.

Fitness Myth No. 5: Yoga can help with all sorts of back pain.

The truth is that yoga can help with back pain, but it’s not equally good for all types.

“If your back pain is muscle-related, then yes, the yoga stretches and some of the positions can help. It can also help build a stronger core, which for many people is the answer to lower back pain,” says Schlifstein.

But if your back problems are related other problems (such as a ruptured disc) yoga is not likely to help, he says. What’s more, it could actually irritate the injury and cause you more pain.

If you do have back pain, get your doctor’s OK before starting any type of exercise program.

Fitness Myth No. 6: If you’re not working up a sweat, you’re not working hard enough.

“Sweating is not necessarily an indicator of exertion,” says Tyne. “Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself.”

It’s possible to burn a significant number of calories without breaking a sweat: Try taking a walk or doing some light weight training.

Fitness Myth No. 7: As long as you feel OK when you’re working out, you’re probably not overdoing it.

One of the biggest mistakes people tend to make when starting or returning to an exercise program is doing too much too soon. The reason we do that, says Schlifstein, is because we feel OK while we are working out.

Push Up Tips For Health Fitness – Burn More Fat
pushup tips

The push-up is one of those bodyweight exercises that everyone has tried at least once.

While it may not look like much, the push-up is definitely worth mastering.

There’s a good reason why it’s still being used by the military and sport coaches. It works.

It helps build both cardiovascular and muscle endurance.

It also serves as a foundation for more complex forms and teaches you how to use multiple muscles together.

Often times, push-ups can be difficult to perform because of improper technique.

Here are a few simple tips to help you perfect this bodyweight exercise and to avoid future injuries.

Remember, focusing on quality over quantity will lead to a healthier body and better results.

Tip #1 – Body Tension:

Instantly improve your form by rolling your hips under and tightening your butt. This will engage engage more muscles.

Tip #2 – Arm Position:

Place your hands under the shoulders at the top of your range.

Tip #3 – Range of Motion:

Good body form will help you from using your hips or head to shorten your range of motion. Complete a total extension from top to bottom with each push up. Don’t short change yourself!

Tip #4 – Shoulder Blade Movement:

Engage your shoulder blades actively with each push up. This is one of the most overlooked form issues.

Crazy health tricks that really work

Many methods to improve your health are pretty straightforward: to lose weight, eat less and exercise more; to boost your energy, get more sleep; to prevent dehydration, drink more water. Others, however, are totally counterintuitive. The following 12 tips really do work—but they may leave you scratching your head.

Drink coffee to have a better nap

In a Japanese study that examined how to make the most of a nap, people who took a “coffee nap”—consuming about 200 milligrams of caffeine (the amount in one to two cups of coffee) and then immediately taking a 20-minute rest—felt more alert and performed better on computer tests than those who only took a nap.
Why does this work? A 20-minute nap ends just as the caffeine kicks in and clears the brain of a molecule called adenosine, maximizing alertness. “Adenosine is a byproduct of wakefulness and activity,” says Allen Towfigh, MD, medical director of New York Neurology & Sleep Medicine. “As adenosine levels increase, we become more fatigued. Napping clears out the adenosine and, when combined with caffeine, an adenosine-blocker, further reduces its effects and amplifies the effects of the nap.”

For healthy teeth, don’t brush after eating

Don’t brush your teeth immediately after meals and drinks, especially if they were acidic. Acidic foods—citrus fruits, sports drinks, tomatoes, soda (both diet and regular)—can soften tooth enamel “like wet sandstone,” says Howard R. Gamble, immediate past president of the Academy of General Dentistry. Brushing your teeth at this stage can speed up acid’s effect on your enamel and erode the layer underneath. Gamble suggests waiting 30 to 60 minutes before brushing.

To wear a smaller size, gain weight

Muscle weight, that is. If two women both weigh 150 pounds and only one lifts weights, the lifter will more likely fit into a smaller pant size than her sedentary counterpart. Likewise, a 150-pound woman who lifts weights could very well wear the same size as a 140-pound woman who doesn’t exercise. The reason: Although a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle, muscle takes up less space, says Mark Nutting, fitness director of SACO Sport & Fitness in Saco, Maine. “You can get bigger muscles and get smaller overall if you lose the fat,” he says. “The bulk so many women fear only occurs if you don’t lose fat and develop muscle on top of it.” Cut back on calories and add weight to your workout to lose inches.

To eat less, eat more

Grabbing a 100-calorie snack pack of cookies or pretzels may seem virtuous, but it’s more likely to make you hungrier than if you ate something more substantial, says Amy Goodson, RD, dietitian for Texas Health Ben Hogan Sports Medicine. “Eating small amounts of carbohydrates does nothing but spike your blood sugar and leave you wanting more carbs.” Goodson recommends choosing a protein such as peanut butter or string cheese with an apple. “They are higher in calories per serving, but the protein and fat helps you get full faster and stay full longer—and you end up eating fewer calories overall,” she says.

Skip energy drinks when you’re tired

Energy drinks contain up to five times more caffeine than coffee, but the boost they provide is fleeting and comes with unpleasant side effects like nervousness, irritability, and rapid heartbeat, says Goodson. Plus, energy drinks often contain high levels of taurine, a central nervous system stimulant, and upwards of 50 grams of sugar per can (that’s 13 teaspoons worth!). The sweet stuff spikes blood sugar temporarily, only to crash soon after, leaving you sluggish and foggyheaded—and reaching for another energy drink.

Ditch diet soda to lose weight

You should ditch all soda, including diet. Research from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health revealed that overweight and obese adults who drank diet beverages ate more calories from food than those who drank regular soda. Additionally, a University of Texas study found that diet soda drinkers had a 70% greater increase in waist circumference than non-drinkers over the course of about 10 years.

Inflammation Reduction can be reduced due to this small exercise
20minutsexercise

If you take out 20 minutes daily for moderate exercise, it will boost your immunity and reduce inflammation in your body, according to a new study conducted by the University of California in San Diego. It will make you less prone to diseases like arthritis and fibromyalgia. Scientists found that one session of moderate exercise will act as an anti-inflammatory. Suzi Hong from University of California said, “Our study found one session of about 20 minutes of moderate treadmill exercise resulted in a five per cent decrease in the number of stimulated immune cells producing TNF.

Scientists noted that while exercising, the brain and sympathetic nervous system are activated, enabling the body to carry out work while the hormones that are released into the blood stream trigger adrenergic receptors, which immune cells possess. According to the researchers, exercises do not have to be intense to have anti-inflammatory effects, but a moderate session would suffice.

“Patients with chronic inflammatory diseases should always consult with their physician regarding the appropriate treatment plan, but knowing that exercise can act as an anti-inflammatory is an exciting step forward in possibilities,” Suzi noted in a study published in Brain, Behaviour and Immunity.

Weight Loss – How these changings make’s you healthy
healthy-life-styles
As Diana Hardeman climbed into a New York City taxi with her boyfriend around midnight on May 31, she suddenly realized she had no idea where to tell the driver to go.
The 33-year-old knew she had to get to a hospital – and fast. Hardeman was fairly sure she had just had a stroke, her second in less than three years. But she had never asked the neurologist she had seen after the first stroke where she should head in the event of a recurrence.

Rattled, she opted for the only place she could think of: a large public hospital not far from her apartment.

Hardeman emerged from her two-day stay with more questions than answers. Doctors could not determine why the otherwise healthy and unusually fit young woman with no apparent risk factors – a devotee of yoga, strenuous hikes and marathons – had suffered strokes in the first place.

Hardeman, who owns MilkMade, an artisanal ice cream company in Brooklyn, decided that her life depended on an answer. So far, she had suffered no permanent impairment. Next time, she knew, she might not be so lucky.

So she temporarily shuttered her burgeoning business and plunged into an unfamiliar world. Guided by her father, a doctor who specializes in critical care, Hardeman plowed through dense articles in medical journals, sought out a variety of experts and amassed and organized a growing stack of medical records.

In her case there were options, not absolutes. Ultimately it was up to Hardeman, who has an MBA degree, to weigh the conflicting advice of experts and decide what to do.

“I had to become the CEO of my own health,” she said.

—

A few days before Christmas in 2013, Hardeman flew to southern California for the holidays. She spent the morning of Dec. 22 surfing with her father. As she bent down to slather coconut oil on her legs after a shower, Hardeman suddenly felt profoundly weak. Her right arm went numb.

Unsure of what was happening, she walked out of the bathroom, sat on the floor of her bedroom and spoke to her boyfriend. “Only gibberish came out,” she said.

“At first I thought, ‘Am I dying?’ ” she recalled, as she discovered that the right side of her body was paralyzed. Hardeman’s boyfriend telephoned her father, who had just left the house. He immediately returned and called an ambulance. Within 20 minutes, Hardeman, whose speech by then had returned to normal, was in the emergency room of the hospital where her father works. Forty-five minutes later, she received tPA, a drug used to treat ischemic strokes (those caused by a blood clot rather than a ruptured blood vessel in the brain), which must be administered within about three hours of an event.

“I was very lucky I was at my dad’s hospital, which is a stroke center,” she said, referring to institutions specially certified to treat acute strokes.

Hardeman was discharged on Christmas Day. Most of the feeling on her right side had returned, but some weakness lingered for several weeks.
Doctors had ruled out common causes of a stroke, including deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that often forms in the legs. They discovered that Hardeman had a common heart defect called a PFO, or patent foramen ovale, a small hole in the wall between the two top chambers of the heart. The hole, present during fetal development, is supposed to close after birth, but sometimes doesn’t. The condition is shared by an estimated 20 to 30 percent of the population and rarely causes problems; most people are unaware of it.

Tests also revealed that Hardeman had actually suffered two small strokes in different parts of the brain. Doctors decided that they appeared to be the result of a tiny tear in her left carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain.

These tears can occur as a result of physical activity as the neck is hyperextended. Yoga, surfing, chiropractic manipulation or even having one’s hair washed at a salon (dubbed “the beauty parlor stroke”) are known to cause such tears.

Hardeman thought she might have suffered a tear as a result of her contorted position on a cramped cross-country flight several days earlier. She said she had awakened from a nap to find her head tilted to the left at an odd angle.

Doctors advised Hardeman to take aspirin and a blood thinner to prevent another stroke and to avoid exercise, including yoga, until further notice.

Back in New York, she consulted a neurologist, who advised her to continue taking medication. After a scan in February revealed nothing amiss involving her carotid artery, the neurologist cleared her to resume running and yoga. Within a few months, Hardeman said, she “felt great.”

She continued taking a daily low-dose aspirin as a precaution. After three months on a blood thinner, she was told she no longer needed it.

“I felt very grateful about how this had all turned out,” she said. The ice cream business she had started in her apartment several years earlier was flourishing. “I thought, ‘Well, this was just a fluke.’ I had gotten over the trepidation that this would happen again.”

Essential 3 Fitness Tips For Healty LifeStyle 2017
2017fitness tips

Fitness is a dynamic industry. New techniques, variations and forms emerge every day. This borrows a great deal from our need to change our fitness regime periodically in order to stave off plateaus. The relentless want to keep oneself challenged and motivated gives rise to novel ideas. The world of fitness has received an overhaul – from some of the fanciest equipment to regimes which require no more but a mat – the contemporary domain of fitness has something to offer everyone. As we wrap up this year, it was inevitable for us to prod and ponder about some of the notable trends in the industry. We got in touch with some of the biggest names in the fitness space and supplemented their inputs with independent research to give you the best of 2016. Take a look.

1. Body-weight Training
This one was big this year and shall continue to rage in 2017. According to experts, as people gained knowledge about fitness and nutrition, they took a departure from the need to workout with the help of external agents like gym equipment, machines or weights. Ace Bollywood celebrity trainer Prashant Sawant notes, “Body-weight training has been a hit with most people. It is inexpensive and an easy way to remain fit”. What makes body-weight training so appealing is the fact that one can easily learn various exercises and perform them anywhere, anytime.

Using your own body weight against yourself has always been an effective way to lose fat and get sculpted. In its annual fitness trends survey, American College of Sports Medicine called body-weight training the second most popular fitness trend of 2016. “Most people think of body weight training as being limited to push-ups and pull-ups, but it can be much more than that. As the No.1 position in the survey suggested last year (2015), body weight training is a trend to watch for the future,” mentioned the ACSM official website.
2. Yoga
2015 witnessed the first ever International Yoga Day celebrated across the world. Countries from all over took part in the celebrations and propagated the benefits of yoga. Though yoga always existed in India, the popularity it received in the past two years put it on the world map. “I would say, this year was a boom for the yoga industry. People realized that there is a need for physical fitness along with a calm mind, and yoga helps you achieve that. It becomes a vital tool in stress management also,” shared Yogacharya Anoop, Chaitanya Foundation. According to him, earlier his classes had mostly foreigners, now people come from far off places in the country to learn yoga.

“There are people who target weight loss and feel power yoga is beneficial for them. Many others embrace the traditional practice for its holistic effect on mind, body and soul,” concluded Yogi Anoop. Yoga is excellent for mental and emotional health and renders spiritual benefits to the practitioner. From Hugh Jackman, Adam Levine to Shilpa Shetty and many other celebrities, yoga has made its mark internationally and will continue do so.
3. Functional Training and Strength Training:

“Functional training replicates actual physical activities that someone might do as a function of his or her daily routine. It uses strength training to improve balance, coordination, force, power, and endurance to enhance the body’s ability to perform activities of daily living,” ACSM. Functional training and strength training were big in the past year.

Resolved to rev up your fitness routine in 2017? The secret to producing real results may be ditching your old workout and trying something entirely new.
Experts who study the science of human movement have known for years that not everyone responds to exercise in the same way. In fact, some people are “non-responders,” meaning exercise doesn’t give them the same boost in cardiovascular fitness (as measured by heart rate and other key fitness metrics) as other people. Why this occurs isn’t entirely clear, though scientists suspect genetics may play a role.

Now there’s new evidence suggesting that a person’s individual response to exercise may depend on the type of workout—and that switching from one routine to another could make all the difference.

For the study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, researchers from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and the University of Ottawa followed 21 healthy women and men as they completed two types of workouts during two separate training periods, with a gap in between that lasted several months.

RELATED: 10 Reasons Your Belly Fat Isn’t Going Away

Half of the participants did endurance training in the first period, then switched to interval training; the other half did the opposite. All of the participants exercised four times a week through each three-week period.

The endurance training consisted of 30 minutes of cycling on a stationary bike at a moderate level of exertion (about 65% of maximum heart rate). For the interval training, participants pumped up the intensity of their pedaling by doing eight 20-second sprints, resting 10 seconds between each.

Before the experiment began and after each training period, the researchers tested the participants to assess their heart rate, VO2 max (the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use), and other key measures of cardiovascular fitness.

They found that both workouts improved the fitness level of the group overall, by about the same amount. But when the researchers looked more closely at the individuals, they found that some people experienced greater improvements after endurance training than interval training; while others gained better results from interval training than endurance training.

In Health – Difference Between Spain & Strain
Ankle pain

Sprains and strains sound similar, but they involve different types of soft tissues and parts of the body. A sprain is when you overstretch or tear a ligament, the band of tissue that connects two bones and stabilizes a joint. A strain, on the other hand, is the tearing or overstretching of a muscle or a tendon (the cord of tissue that joins muscle to bone). Sprains most commonly happen in the ankle, knee, and wrist, whereas strains often involve the lower back or hamstrings.

If it’s a sprain, you may have a hard time moving the joint where the ligament is located, and you may hear or feel a “pop” in the joint when the injury occurs. Those with strains often experience muscle spasms or cramping around the injured area; they may not be able to move the muscle very much. If the injuries are mild, you can typically treat both at home through rest, icing the area, compression and elevation, as well as taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. Physical therapy or surgery may be necessary to rehab more serious injuries.

Some reasons why woman can run even fast due to health

Whether you’re a running newbie or an avid pavement pounder, you’ve likely considered your running pace an important mark of improvement. And if you’ve ever wondered how your mile time compares to other runners’ times, there’s now a solid statistic you can cite.
Workout tracking app Strava has released its list of end of year insights, which includes average run statistics like distance, elevation, moving time, most popular day, and pace, using data from the 86.7 million runs logged globally on the app in 2016. The average pace for a woman came in at 9 minutes and 55 second per mile. Other averages included a moving time of 49 minutes and a distance of 4.6 miles.

If you want to get faster and improve your average pace in 2017, there are plenty of ways to reach your goal. First, you could try this speed workout: Spend 15 minutes warming up by walking for 5 minutes and lightly jogging for about 10 minutes. Run for 2 minutes at a pace just short of a sprint, and then jog for 2 minutes. Repeat the sequence four times, and then cool down for about 15 minutes. You’ll also improve your pace by doing these strength exercises for runners.

If you’re looking to get your run on the fun way, follow along with our Mile High Run Club interval running video. It makes training indoors much more enjoyable.

16 Easy Ways To Lose Your Weight Fast

Tweak your lifestyle:
It’s a familiar story: You pledge to honor a daily elliptical routine and count every last calorie. But soon, you’re eating cupcakes at the office and grabbing happy hour mojitos, thinking, Oops, diet over.

There is a better way: Swap the all-or-nothing approach for one or two healthy switch-ups in your daily routine. “Doing this can lead to more weight loss than you ever imagined,” says Marissa Lippert, RD, author of The Cheater’s Diet.

In fact, we talked to readers who knocked off 10, 25, even 60 pounds with some easy tweaks. Borrow their slim-down secrets to transform your body the real-world way.

Swap your go-to order
“I used to eat out at restaurants up to nine times a week! By cutting back to just once a week and ordering a grilled chicken salad instead of a large bowl of pasta, I’ve lost 20 pounds in one month.” —Kerri Butler, Joplin, MO

Skip the salty aisle
“I reached my goal weight after I stopped routinely buying snacks at the grocery store. If I wanted a bag of chips or a candy bar, I had to walk to the store to get it. That inconvenience usually made me ignore my cravings.” —Heather Del Baso, Worcester, MA

Have a 300-calorie breakfast:

“I used to skip breakfast, but now I never go without. I always eat about 300 calories of a healthy mix of protein and whole grains. My go-to meal: a sandwich with natural peanut butter and apple butter. It keeps my hunger down so I snack less throughout the day. In a little over a year, I’ve shed 65 pounds.” —Bo Hale, Tulsa, OK

Get fit in five:

“I try to fit in small bouts of exercise whenever possible, like doing jumping jacks or crunches during television commercials or dancing while washing dishes. This burns extra calories and keeps me from mindlessly munching in front of the TV. Now my clothes fit way better, and I’m more toned than ever.” —Megan Tiscareno, Hammond, IN.

Kick the habit:

“I quit smoking, and right away joined a gym and started working out with a personal trainer. There was no way I could exercise and feel healthy if I kept lighting up. I’ve already dropped 37 pounds in three months!” —Leila Fathi, Memphis, TN.

Do a purge:

“I totally cleaned out my pantry. Once I replaced the foods I used to overindulge in, like ice cream, with lower-cal snacks, such as roasted sunflower seeds or Special K Chocolatey Delight cereal, I began making better choices automatically. Now, I’m slimmer than I was before I had my two kids!” —Lori Feldman, Coconut Creek, FL

Healthy up your happy hour:

“After work, my colleagues and I always grabbed dinner—and it was usually deep-fried. Then we changed things up. Instead of nights out, we started walking and running around a local track. A year later, I’m down 40 pounds.” —Ellen Setzer, Cleveland, OH

Get fired up:

“I loaded my iPod with jams that make me look forward to going to the gym. They energize me, allowing me to pick up speed on the elliptical—and because I want to hear my entire playlist, my workouts are longer now. Two months later, I’m down 13 pounds and have killer legs.” —Kara Marshall, York, ME

Lose weight without exercise or doing anything

Painless weight loss? If you’re desperately trying to squeeze in workouts and avoid your favorite high-calorie treats, it can seem like there’s nothing pain-free about it.

Yet while eating healthier and slipping in exercise does take some work, it really doesn’t have to require heroic effort. Making just a few simple lifestyle changes can pack a big weight loss punch over time.

WebMD spoke to weight loss experts and everyday people who’ve figured out a few painless ways to lose weight — and keep it off. Here are their top tips on how to lose weight without sweating it too much.
1. Add, Don’t Subtract
Forget diet denial: Try adding foods to your diet instead of subtracting them.

Add in healthy goodies you really love, like deep-red cherries, juicy grapes, or crunchy snow peas. Slip those favorite fruits into your bag lunch and breakfast cereal; add the veggies into soups, stews, and sauces.

“Adding in really works, taking away never does,” says registered dietitian David Grotto, RD, LDN, author of 101 Optimal Life Foods, but do remember to keep an eye on overall calories. And don’t forget to add in something physical, too, whether it’s doing a few dance moves before dinner, shooting hoops, or taking a quick stroll.
2. Forget About Working Out
If the word “exercise” inspires you to creative avoidance, then avoid it. Maybe the trick to enjoying a workout may be to never call it working out.

“There’s some truth to that,” Grotto tells WebMD, and once you start your not-calling-it-exercise plan, Grotto says you’ll discover “the way good health feels knocks down the roadblocks that were preventing you from exercising in the first place.”

So burn calories and invigorate muscles by beachcombing, riding bikes, grass skiing, making snow angels, hiking, washing the car, playing Frisbee, chasing the dog around the yard, or even enjoying great sex. After all, a rose by any other name …
3. Go Walking
Walking when the weather’s nice is a super-easy way to keep fit, says Diane Virginias, a certified nursing assistant from New York. “I enjoy the seasons,” she says, adding that even when she’s short on time she’ll go out for a few minutes. “Even a five minute walk is a five minute walk.”

A well-balanced breakfast is a key part of any stay-slim plan. Research shows that breakfast eaters typically consume about 100 fewer calories per day and weigh less than those who skip it. This strategy works in the long run too. Nearly 80% of participants in the National Weight Control Registry, which charts dieters who have kept off 30 pounds for a year plus, have breakfast every day. Here, seven easy ways to get started. (For more, just go here.)

Harried mornings have met their match with these super fast and simple recipes — plus some good-for-you pre-packaged breakfast ideas that aced our taste tests.

1. EFFECTIVE weight-loss strategies are NOT “1 size fits all.” There are 4 specific strategies that work for 4 specific weight-loss types.

2. Losing fat is virtually IMPOSSIBLE if you are eating and exercising for the WRONG type. This is because each type represents a specific hormonal imbalance.

3. Based on your gender, age, body shape, and 5 other factors… we will accurately determine exactly which weight loss type you fit into, and give you these results for FREE.

4. Shedding body fat becomes significantly easier when you follow the FREE plan you will receive immediately after taking this SHORT quiz.

After interacting with over 300,000 customers over the last 3 years, my medical advisory board and I have determined that overweight people typically have an imbalance of 4 specific hormones.

Our key discovery is that a MAJOR cause of an individual’s weight issues is typically driven by a CORE HORMONE IMBALANCE of one of these 4 hormones: adiponectin, ghrelin, cortisol, and insulin.

When given a specific eating, exercise, and lifestyle plan uniquely designed to re-balance this CORE HORMONE, losing fat becomes much easier. This is especially effective when combined with scientifically proven hormone balancing ingredients.

You will learn much more about how this works, including what we call the “Domino Effect,” after you take this short quiz.

Some Habits That Not fit for your health and weight

Tea before bed? Catching up on sleep on weekends? If you want to lose weight and boost your energy, these activities might seem like good ideas, but they can actually be sabotaging your healthy living goals. We asked nutritionists and fitness experts to reveal the so-called healthy habits that you should ditch ASAP.

You’ve vowed to run three times a week. You’ve loaded your fridge with all the green juice. Heck, you’ve even memorized what 100 calories looks like. Especially with the new year coming, it’s common to juggle a laundry list of good-for-you resolutions.
But sometimes, even when you’re seemingly taking all of the right steps towards getting “healthy,” you can be unknowingly committing innocent missteps that sabotage your healthy efforts. We reached out to top nutritionists and fitness experts and asked them to share the common mistakes they see clients make, and the simple tweaks you can make to boost your energy, lose weight, and feel amazing stat.
You may think it’s an exemplary act, but nutritionists warn against the common weight-loss practice (and ditto for swapping a smoothie for any meal as part of a get-fit kick). “While well-rounded smoothie recipes absolutely exist, many ‘weight loss’ smoothies out there contain nothing more than fruit, and water or nut milk,” advises Kayleen St. John, RD, Executive Director of Nutrition and Strategic Development of Euphebe. “Some even contain upwards of two cups of fruit. While fruit is certainly healthy, consuming large amounts at once may still raise blood sugar and lead to an insulin spike(think: potential weight gain).” If you’re on-the-go and have to replace a shake for a proper meal, don’t include more than one cup of fruit and make sure you have a healthy fat — like peanut butter or avocado — and protein in there as well.
Guilty? You’re not alone. Many indulge in this seemingly innocuous habit, or use the strategy as an attempt to catch up on a weekday sleep deficit. But it isn’t doing your health any good, and may even compel you to overeat and be more exhausted during the workweek. “As luxurious as it feels to indulge in extra hours of sleep on weekends, it throws off your schedule and may disrupt your regular circadian rhythm,” cautions plant-based dietitian Julieanna Hever, MS, RD, author of The Vegiterranean Diet and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition. “Try being consistent with sleep and wake times on all the days of the week.” For some shut-eye help, check out our favorite surefire ways to fall asleep.
You’ve bookmarked that YouTube yoga channel that your PTA friend mentioned for your daily morning flow, and it’s great. That pretty much means you’re a yogi, right? Not quite. “Generally, a yoga class that is more active or strength-building is going to use repetition of poses, a faster pace and sometimes more advanced poses. If you’re not familiar with the poses and how to do them correctly, you will not be getting the same strengthening benefits,” explains Rebecca Weible, Director and Founder of Yo Yoga! in New York City. “While the teacher may offer assistance and adjustments, they won’t be able to coach you through the whole class. If you’re new to yoga, a beginner’s class will feel plenty challenging and teach you to do the poses correctly.” Also seek out yin and restorative classes, which are good options for people just starting out.
Repeat after every nutritionist ever: Carbs are not the enemy. “The low-carb craze refuses to die. While we should definitely avoid processed carbohydrates (white flour and white sugar), whole grains shouldn’t be included here. Whole grains have a great deal of fiber (which keeps things moving in your system) and also foster the growth of beneficial gut bacteria,” offers St. John. “As we are learning more about the connection between gut bacteria (microbiome) and weight status, we know fiber intake is crucial.” Try using healthy whole grain staples like barley, brown rice or farro in lieu of white rice or pasta and keep serving size to about the size of your fist.
“Cutting out certain things like gluten before you have a diagnosed disease or sensitivity can actually cause test results to be inaccurate. For example, you cannot get an accurate result for the test for celiac disease if you have not been consuming gluten for a period of time before the test,” cautions Sarah-Jane Bedwell, RD, LDN, host of Cooking with Sarah-Jane video and blog series. “Not only that, but cutting foods out of your diet without a medical reason can mean missing out on important nutrients and becoming deficient in them.” If you think you have a legit problem with a food group, talk to a nutritionist or your doctor about the best way to proceed.

How to lose weight easily by some simple tips for health
loseweight

Making small, specific goals is key to losing weight long-term — but now can you get motivated now? Check out our favorite, no-fail jump-starts to feeling like your old self (i.e. back into your skinny jeans) ASAP!

1. Prioritize real, whole foods.

Make sure that everything you’re eating is whole — as in nothing processed or packaged. Since salt is a preservative, these are the foods that are highest in sodium — something to keep in mind when planning your meals. Plan on making sure that all items you choose are fresh: that means filling up on fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein.

2. Know your limits with salt.

When it comes by buying snacks, a “low sodium” product has to be 140mg or less per serving — so if you’re REALLY in a bind, you can follow that guideline for what to put in your card.

3. Go for that cup of joe.

Start your day with a cup of coffee. Caffeine is a natural diuretic and an excellent source of antioxidants, which protect your cells from damage. You can have up to 400mg — about a Venti Starbucks coffee — daily, according to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Not much of a coffee drinker? Tea is also a natural diuretic, and types of herbal tea such as dandelion or fennel root can also lend a hand. In fact: When a recent study compared the metabolic effect of green tea (in extract) with that of a placebo, researchers found that the green-tea drinkers burned about 70 additional calories in a 24-hour period.

4. …and skip sugar-y beverages.

Plain and simple: We just don’t feel full by liquid calories in quite the same way as we do real food. Drinking a juice or caramel-y coffee drink, for instance, won’t make you feel full the way eating a bowl of veggie-and-protein packed stir-fry will. So monitor your intake of juice, soda, sweetened coffee and tea drinks and alcoholic beverages. If you consume one of each of those beverages during the day, you’ll have taken in at least 800 extra calories by nighttime — and you’ll still be hungry. (Incidentally, alcohol may suppress the metabolism of fat, making it tougher for you to burn those calories.) Some other ways to skip sugar? Check ’em out here.

5. Buy a set of 5-pound weights.

It’s a one-time investment you’ll never regret. Here’s why: Strength training builds lean muscle tissue, which burns more calories — at work or at rest — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The more lean muscle you have, the faster you’ll slim down. How do you start strength training? Try some push-ups or a few squats or lunges. Use your free weights to perform simple biceps curls or triceps pulls right in your home or office. Do these exercises three to four times per week, and you’ll soon see a rapid improvement in your physique.

Those setting weight loss and healthy eating resolutions have undoubtedly heard of the newest dieting fad, Whole30. Known for being a month-long reset of eating habits, the diet is a restrictive one that focuses on eliminating “bad” food groups.

Participants of Whole30 must eliminate grains, legumes, dairy, processed food ingredients (like MSG and sulfites), sugar, and alcohol. The rules are simple, don’t eat these food groups, don’t weight or measure yourself, and don’t cheat. The touted results from the month-long program are weight loss, clearing up of digestive and skin issues, subsiding unhealthy food cravings, and overall higher energy.

The Whole30 mindset has little sympathy for those attempting to change their eating habits. If you slip up, by having a pat of butter on your sweet potato or taking a bite of that coworker’s birthday cake, then you must start over the 30 days. You can’t create Whole30 versions of your favorite foods either. Coconut flour pancakes or cauliflower pizza crust? Totally off limits because, despite using approved ingredients, you’re still setting your mind up to crave junk food.

Complaining isn’t tolerated, with the program reading “It is not hard. Don’t you dare tell us this is hard. Quitting heroin is hard. Beating cancer is hard. Drinking your coffee black. Is. Not. Hard.”

This hard line method of “all or nothing” goes against what many of us at Cooking Light believe, that progress is more important than perfection. Whether it’s an entire lifestyle overhaul or baby steps in daily choices, these decisions will eventually help on your journey to achieving your weight and health goals.

Along with this strenuous mindset, Whole30 eliminates plenty of healthy food options that we believe are part of a wholesome diet. Here’s a break down of why you should keep these foods in your diet:

• Legumes: This category, which includes beans, lentils, and peanuts, is packed with protein, fiber, and various nutrients. They can make for a nutritious, and affordable, plant-based protein option. For meat-eaters legumes can help lighten up traditionally calorie-heavy meals like chili, and vegetarians can benefit from featuring them as a main dish, like in Lentil Shepherd’s Pie.

• Whole Grains: Refined grains, often blamed for health crises like the rising rates of obesity and diabetes, shouldn’t be confused with their more nutrient-dense whole grain cousins. Not only have whole grains been linked to weight loss, it has also been found that increased consumption could possibly lead to a longer life. Hearty ingredients like brown rice, bulgur, oats, and other whole grain varieties can be included in a healthy diet.

• Dairy: While a dieter’s first thought may be that lower-fat versions of dairy staples like yogurt or cheese would be the healthiest option, research is showing it may be best to eat full-fat dairy products. With less processing, more satiating power, and a tendency to taste better, opting for full-fat dairy can pay off in the end. While moderation is key, ingredients like protein-packed Greek yogurt, high-quality cheeses, and calcium-rich whole milk can be part of a nutritious lifestyle.

While the Whole30 diet may be a feasible option for those needing a stringent plan to keep them in line, it’s not ideal for long-term changes in weight or eating habits. Instead, we recommend sticking with a varied diet of whole foods, being mindful of your eating habits, and not forgetting portion control to accomplish a healthy lifestyle.
When it comes to keeping skin looking young, no beauty ingredient does the job like retinol. The vitamin A derivative diminishes the appearance of age spots, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and wrinkles, explains Kim Nichols, MD, a dermatologist based in Greenwich, Conn. It also shrinks blackheads, boosts elasticity, and reduces redness, inflammation, and pore size.

Retinol works its magic through cell turnover, says Suneel Chilukuri, MD, dermatologist and founder of Refresh Dermatology in Houston. “Retinol ensures the newest, healthiest cells rise to the surface while the dull and lifeless cells are sloughed off,” he says.

Thing is, that accelerated cell turnover can bring on a case of what some call “retinol uglies”—dryness, flaking, redness, and increased sensitivity. And in the winter, when dry heat, wind, and low humidity are already sucking moisture away from your skin, you may be even more prone to retinol-induced blotchiness.

No one wants to put her anti-aging skincare regimen on hold until the warmer weather comes, and with a few tweaks you won’t have to. First, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to prevent your skin from getting dehydrated (here are seven easy ways to drink more water). Apply moisturizer every morning and night, and those with especially parched complexions can also add a hydrating serum. “In the summer, I use a lighter moisturizer,” says Dr. Nichols, who is also Avon’s Consulting Dermatologist. “But in the winter, I may replace a daily moisturizer with a heavier one. Vitamin E and aloe are effective moisturizing ingredients.” And be sure you’re not applying too much retinol—you only need about penny-size dab for your whole face.

Dr. Chilukuri cautions that excessively hot showers and steam also dehydrate skin. “Most of our patients are able to easily tolerate the appropriate retinol throughout the winter,” he says. “In some cases, you may need to decrease the number of nights per week you are using it. You can limit use to two to three nights a week to prevent additional dryness and irritation.”

If you’re still experiencing parched skin, buy a lower strength retinol for the cold season. “A .5% rather than a 1% may be the right fit for winter,” says Dr. Nichols. “The frequency and strength varies per age and skin type. Sensitive skin might apply retinol .5% retinol two to three times week, while a man or woman in their forties or fifties may prefer a retinol at 1% four to five times a week.”

However, all retinols should be used under the care of a pro. “It is important to have an initial consultation with a dermatologist or qualified skincare expert to determine the best retinol for your skin,” says Dr. Chilukuri. “Typically, patients can avoid complications such as dry, irritated skin if the proper products are used and introduced correctly. Patients are then more compliant, will continue their regimen, and achieve long-term benefits.”
